Old favorite. Ors is a daskaye, which means that she is without a family name in Ser society. While this can sometimes be the mark of exiles and criminals who are disowned by their communities, it also leaves orphans, migrants, and those who have been estranged from their family in the dust. In Ser communities this can interfere with one’s ability to participate in society at almost all levels; no family name means no history, no trust, and no ability to sign off on formal compacts (the “currency” of Ausank, if there ever was one.)
The last name “Undurne” is also a mark of this– she cannot adopt an existing family name, but must use one for legal purposes. “Undurne” has no real meaning when used as a family name.
